Chapter 7 Business Bankruptcy

In 2019, 22,780 businesses in the United States filed for bankruptcy. Business entities that are set up as a corporation, LLC or partnership typically file a Chapter 7 business bankruptcy to dissolve and liquidate their business. A Chapter 7 business bankruptcy will not discharge the debts of a business nor will the business be able to capitalize on bankruptcy exemptions. Sole proprietors who choose to file Chapter 7 must do so under the Chapter 7 personal bankruptcy law rather than the business bankruptcy since a sole proprietor is not an entity but an individual.
